In F.U.N.G.I., Danish artist Nicolai Howalt explores the vital and enigmatic world of fungi as essential an element to life on Earth as sunlight or oxygen.

Inside light-sealed, temperate boxes, Howalt has grown spores from select species of fungi directly on unexposed analog photographic paper. Living off the gelatin-based emulsion before final development in the darkroom the results yield vibrant photogram imagery created by the fungi tracing through the deteriorating paper.
